Atrial pacing and exercise in the evaluation of patients with angina pectoris.

چکیده
The anginal threshold was determined by atrial pacing in 23 patients with coronary artery disease. Twelve of the 23 subjects also performed supine exercise at progressive workloads until the onset of angina. Atrial pacing produced a fall in left ventricular stroke work index and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP); cardiac output increased, and, with the onset of angina, left ventricular dysfunction was sometimes evidenced, either by an increase in LVEDP or by an abnormal LVEDP in the postpacing period. In contrast, exercise consistently produced left ventricular dysfunction. The tension-time index at the onset of angina was similar whether the pain was induced

متن کاملHaemodynamic comparisons of atrial pacing and exercise in patients with angina pectoris.
Though exercise is the most physiological test for angina pectoris, it has several disadvantages. The most important are that, it is difficult to achieve a steady state, comparable haemodynamic parameters are not readily reproducible during repeated periods of exercise (Burkart, Barold, and Sowton, 1967), it cannot be used effectively in patients with poor exercise tolerance, and angina pectori...
متن کاملEvaluation of rapid atrial pacing in diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Evaluation of atrial pacing test.
Seventeen patients presenting with anginal-type pain were studied by bicycle exercise testing, rapid atrial pacing, and coronary angiography. Ten patients with angina and abnormal pacing tests at rates less than 180/minute were found to have significant coronary artery disease as demonstrated by coronary angiography. Seven patients with pacing-induced chest pain only at rates of 180 and above h...

متن کاملInvestigation of the physiological basis for increased exercise threshold for angina pectoris after physical conditioning.
Eight patients with coronary heart disease and exertional angina pectoris successfully completed an 11-15 wk program of endurance exercise conditioning. Angina threshold was determined by upright bicycle ergometer exercise and by atrial pacing. The product of heart rate and arterial systolic blood pressure at the exercise angina threshold was higher after conditioning. suggesting that condition...
